Barberton: Then and Now

Juried Photography Exhibition at Summit Artspace on Tusc in Barberton

August 24 - October 13, 2018

Barberton: Then and Now

The communities in our towns, villages and cities are many times merely a reflection of the neighborhoods and people who make them unique and distinctive. The neighborhoods in Barberton have told and continue to tell a story of pride, growth, and rebirth. The neighborhoods as well can be the reflection of time that has stood still. Neighborhoods and how they are seen are as unique as the artists who tell their stories through photographs. To honor the importance of Barberton as a significant placeholder in Summit County, local artists are invited to enter photography highlighting Barberton.

Photographs may reflect what makes the neighborhood distinctive, represents living in a neighborhood or intimately reflects passion, pride, hope or despair as captured by the artist. The images can be historical or new work generated specifically for the show. Historical work must be represented by the original artist. All submissions need to include the address represented in the photograph.

Historical photographs of Barberton, not taken by the submitting artist, are also welcome. These will be displayed in a concurrent exhibit representing the history of Barberton as it was “then”.

Deadline for Entry: Monday, August 6, 2018 at midnight

The exhibition is open to artists residing in or attending school in the following Ohio counties: Summit, Cuyahoga, Medina, Stark and Portage. Unfortunately, if you do not live in or attend school in one of these counties, we are unable to consider your work.

Jurying will be done via digital image. Artists may submit one artwork piece per submission for consideration, and may submit up to three high quality digital images (.jpg, .pdf, .tiff. .png) of the artwork entered. Artists may submit up to three entries for consideration in the show, but each entry must be submitted separately. The images must accurately represent the work and accepted work must be professionally presented for exhibition (see notes below).

Notification of the juror’s decision will be made via email by midnight on Monday, August 13, 2018. Accepted work must be delivered to Summit Artspace on Monday, August 20, 2018, during the hours of 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
